Tom Bancroft

Son of John Bancroft and twin of Phil, brother of Sophie. Started drms at 11 yo and moved with family to Scotland at 9 yo. Gigs around Edinburgh from age of 16, began arranging (for ‘Fineline Quartet’) while studying medicine at Cambridge. Studied composing and arranging 1988/89 at McGill Uni in Canada and played and recorded there. Returned to Scotland 1989 and involved in much playing and arranging and first worked with sax player Tommy Smith in 1991. Worked with Chick Lyall 1991, gigged with Sun Ra 1992, Martin Taylor, Jason Rebello, Julian Arguelles, Stan Sulzmann, Sheila Jordan, brother Phil etc through 1990s. Ran own big band, ‘Kevin McKenzie’s Quartet’, Chick Lyall and toured extensively with brother Phil. Extensive arranging, composing and touring in 2000s and writing for TV and radio. Prominent figure in contemporary jazz of 2000s.
