Join us to journey through Scotland’s jazz stories using archival materials, pictures, music and film. Presented by Haftor Medboe, Chair of the SJA and Carolyn Scott, SJA volunteer and lecturer in journalism at Edinburgh Napier University.
The Scottish jazz archive exists to ensure Scotland’s jazz history is not lost to time but actively used. Their vision is to create a story-led community archive that anyone can explore, learn from and contribute to. Jazz has formed a vibrant part of Scotland’s cultural tapestry for over a century.
From its early arrival from the USA through to its heyday in the ’50s and ’60s, to the young Scots musicians making waves on the international stage today – these are stories worth telling. But without care and diligence, many are at risk of being lost.
Who were the musicians that built this scene? What did jazz sound like in Scotland’s dance halls and clubs? And whose voices have we still to find?
