Fellow guitar players, friends and relatives met at a lunch in Glasgow today to pay tribute to veteran Glasgow guitarist Ron Moore who celebrates his 80th birthday tomorrow Mon. 16 June. For many years Ron was a familiar face on STV as the featured guitar player in the Tommy Maxwell Quartet, the house band for the One o'clock Gang Show. Many hundreds of guitar students have benefitted from Ron's expertise over the years and although he rarely plays in public now, he continues to teach and enjoys jamming with friends. And that's how the lunch ended. Ron was persuaded to fetch two guitars from his home nearbye and the lounge at the Bishopbriggs Golf Club was soon swinging to the sound of the old jazz standards as Ron and friends entertained the company.
